Charnay, Claude-Joseph Désiré (1828-1915)
Claude-Joseph Désiré Charnay was a French archaeologist, explorer and photography pioneer. He went on various expeditions through Mexico from 1857 to 1861. He travelled around Madagascar in 1863, toured Chile and Argentina in 1875 and visited Java and Australia in 1878. From 1880 to 1883 he embarked on another trip through Mexico and finally visited Yucatán in 1886.
