Chambi, Martín (1891-1973)

Martín Chambi was a Peruvian photographer who was born in Coaza. From 1908 Chambi worked as an assistant to the photographer Max T. Vargas in Arequipa. In 1920 he opened his own studio in Cusco. He was best known for his portraits and images of landscapes and archaeological excavation sites.

Material:

  • The material mainly comprises images of Machu Picchu and the Cusco region as well as views of the city of Cusco, taken around 1930.
  • 12 postcards
  • 40 photographs
