Philippi, Rudolf Amandus (1808-1904); Philippi, Bernhard Eunom (1811-1852)
Rudolf Amandus Philippi was a German natural scientist, zoologist and botanist. In 1851 he emigrated to Chile, where he worked as a professor at the Universidad de Chile (Santiago de Chile). He was also director of the Museo Nacional in Santiago de Chile. Bernhard Eunom Philippi was a German naval officer and natural scientist. In 1837 he emigrated to Peru and settled in Chile a year later. The Philippi brothers played an instrumental role in German emigration and settlement in southern Chile in the early 1840s.
