Stern, Grete (1904-1999)

Grete Stern was a German photographer, who also traded under the name of Ringl. Stern firstly emigrated to London in 1933. After marrying the Argentinian Bauhaus student Horacio Coppola, she emigrated to Argentina. In 1937 she opened an advertising and photography studio with Horacio Coppola in Buenos Aires. Stern’s work had a defining influence on modern photography. From 1957 to 1960 Stern took a series of ethnographic photographs, documenting the living conditions of the indigenous people of Chaco.
