Pablo S. Villar is a doctor (urologist) and writer from Costa Rica. He studied medicine at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg from 1964 to 1972 and at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1973 to 1978. From 1978 to 1979 he worked at the embassy of Costa Rica in the GDR. Villar was imprisoned in the GDR from 1981 to 1982 for trying to assist a woman from East Berlin who wanted to escape to West Berlin.
