Desiderio Arias was a military officer and politician in the Dominican Republic who held a number of posts, such as Secretary of War. He was involved in various armed struggles to seize control of the presidency and was assassinated in 1931 on the orders of the dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina.
