Wolfgang Hirsch-Weber was a German political scientist. He fled Germany after the National Socialists introduced anti-Semitic laws and lived in exile in Bolivia from 1938 to 1949. In Bolivia he was a member of Das Andere Deutschland (The Other Germany), an association of German exiles. During his time at Berlin Free University (1955-1965) he was involved in establishing the Institute for Latin American Studies (LAI). He also helped found the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Lateinamerikaforschung (German Association for Latin American Research – ADLAF) and the Deutsch-Iberoamerikanische Vereinigung (German-Ibero-American Association). From 1966 to 1968 he worked as a representative of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (Friedrich Ebert Foundation) in Latin America. During this period, he helped establish the Instituto Latinoamericano de Investigaciones Sociales (ILDIS) in Santiago de Chile. From 1972 to 1988 he held a chair in political science at the University of Mannheim.
