Alexander Lipschütz was born in Riga and studied medicine in Germany. He also took an interest in anthropology. Lipschütz lived in Chile from 1926, where he lectured at various institutions, such as the Universidad de Concepción. In 1937 he helped found Chile’s Instituto de Medicina Experimental del Servicio Nacional de Salud.
