Lutz, Otto (1881-?) and Lutz-Kartmann, Johanna (?-?)
From 1910 to 1914 the German natural scientist Otto Lutz worked in Panama, where he trained teachers at the Instituto Nacional in Panama and later directed the Museo Nacional de Panamá. His wife Johanna Lutz-Kartmann was a singer and worked as a teacher at the Music Conservatory of Panama. Around 1910/11 they made a field trip to the area around Puerto Piñas (Darién) in South Panama.

Material:

  • 1 handwritten manuscript in German (“Im centralamerikanischen Urwald”, Panama, year unspecified, 16 sheets)
  • 17 photographs of a field trip in the area around Puerto Piñas (Darién), Panama (circa 1910/11).
  • 7 photographs of the construction of the Panama Canal (1910–14).
