Walter Smetak was a Swiss musician (cello), composer and author. He emigrated to southern Brazil in 1937. He worked in Salvador da Bahia from 1957 and was granted citizenship in 1968. He released his first record in 1973, entitled Smetak. He also built musical instruments and some 150 sound installations. Smetak published 28 books and essays in newspapers and journals.
