Three gables




Spranz, Bodo (1920-2007)

Bodo Spranz was a German specialist in ancient American studies whose research focused on Central America and Peru. After serving as a captain in World War Two, he studied ethnology and other subjects at the University of Hamburg. He was appointed technical assistant at the Übersee Museum in Bremen (Bremen Ethnological Museum) in 1951. In 1958 he obtained his doctorate from the University of Hamburg. In 1962 he became director of the Natur- und Völkerkundemuseum in Freiburg (Freiburg Nature and Ethnology Museum). He was awarded his post-doctorate (habilitation) in 1969 with a dissertation on Mexican archaeology.
